Wagner Farm

Volunteer Committees

Buildings and Grounds Committee

This Committee has advisory responsibilities for the Arboretum-controlled buildings and grounds of the farm property. As the formal gardens and other amenities of the Arboretum are developed, operation and maintenance of the plantings will be the committee’s responsibility. To volunteer, contact Suzanne Smith .

Community Garden

This unique facility will provide local residents with the opportunity to grow their own annual vegetables, flowers and plants in a leased plot within a fenced area. This committee will coordinate annual tilling of the soil, layout of the individual plots, coordination and control of the leasing of these plots to the participants, and operational control throughout the growing season annually. To volunteer, contact Keith Cooper .

The Giving Gardeners Project

Volunteers supplying produce to food banks and other organizations feeding the needy in the area will work this portion of the garden. Churches and organizations such as the Girl and Boy Scouts are being contacted for their assistance. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer contact Ernie Cottrill

Education and Community Programs

The development and production of education and community programs will be a main focus of the Arboretum. Classes will be provided for a great variety of horticultural subjects. This committee will design the annual offerings program, establish the calendar, identify and coordinate the instructors and locations, and coordinate the enrollments and attendance. To volunteer, contact Karen Manner .

Fundraising

The most important function of the Wagner Farm Arboretum Foundation is to raise funds to support the construction and operation of the Arboretum and all of its facilities. Funding sources will include several areas ranging from membership dues collection to securing the support of major benefactors and obtaining grants. To volunteer, contact Carolann Garafola .

Grants

The writing of grants in search of money that will be awarded to finance a particular project, or part of a project, will be a special effort in the fundraising process. This committee will search for applicable public and private- sourced grants, and then prepare and submit the necessary applications and documents to ensure the arboretum is favorably considered for award. To volunteer, contact Carolann Garafola .

Membership and Volunteers

Another important function of the Foundation is to ensure there is a population of dedicated individuals to support the many programs planned and to complete the tasks necessary to make this world class Arboretum run. This committee will work to recruit qualified, dedicated people to join the Foundation and/or Arboretum force of volunteers. There is much to do, and everyone can contribute. To volunteer, contact Julie Gnoy .

Public Relations

This committee will develop a media outreach plan to ensure widespread dissemination of the Foundation’s and Arboretum’s activities and events. It will design and affect the means, such as flyers and press releases, by which to ensure awareness throughout the community. Communication outreach is most important in keeping the community aware of the activities of the Arboretum. To volunteer, contact MaryLynn Schiavi
