Volunteer Opportunities
Help us in the Garden
Volunteer either as an individual or as a group. As an individual, we value your organizational skills,
your knowledge with gardening, and your time and effort. As a group, your help with our projects is invaluable.
- Giving Gardens
Garden plots at Wagner Farm are maintained to produce vegetables distributed through agencies such as SHIP, Food Bank Network of Somerset County, Star Fish, soup kitchens, Second Harvest, and other appropriate agencies to feed the poor and needy. The gardens are tended entirely by volunteers. Volunteer tasks include preparing the soil, planting the vegetables, tilling the garden, watering the gardens, harvesting the vegetables, and clearing the land at the end of the season. Experienced gardeners will be available, on request, to answer questions. Groups such as churches, school service groups, Boy and Girl Scout troops, neighborhood groups (friends and neighbors etc.), corporate volunteers, etc., could take on one or more plots (depending on number of volunteers) and manage their own schedule. Help keep the Arboretum's "curb appeal" inviting. We have areas by the office and entry that could use regular garden maintenance. Or a bed in the Children's garden that could use tending like planting, weeding, and watering for the season. You or your organization could get bragging rights and have the fun of working together for the benefit of The Wagner Farm Arboretum. We have butterfly gardens, an Alphabet garden, a maze with sunflowers, a daffodil bed, and more! The work is made more pleasant by the beautiful surroundings-birds, butterflies, honeybees! - Children's Garden
We need help building some of the garden structures, and paths as well as tend to the garden beds and general maintenance. Help us with Projects from spring through fall, weather permitting. This is a great opportunity for adult organizations/corporate groups or individuals. Contact:Holly Hall - Garden Manager
We are looking for a garden manager to oversee projects and the garden's maintenance schedule. If you are handy with construction skills and have gardening knowledge, good people and organizational skills to work with gardeners and Mother Nature, you're the right fit! - Project Coordinator
Coordinate garden and hardscape projects for the Arboretum's gardens with volunteers and Scout groups. We need your Gardening skills, hardscape knowledge and general talents. The project coordinator will also be Contacting groups to promote projects, and will organize and lead groups. - Educational Program Manager
Organize and run nature-related educational programs for adults and children. We have the opportunity to provide gardening, environmental and self-improvement classes for children and adults and are in need of someone to organize, promote and schedule the programs. We have some program offerings in place, so you would be able to start with these and expand the number of classes and subjects over time. Work with the talented folks who volunteer at the Arboretum in organizing programs for events, publicity or the community.
